KOGI2023: Kogi State Govt Warns SDP Candidate Against ‘Tactless’ Attack On Govt, Media

The Kogi state government has condemned the tactless and dubious attempt to blackmail security and media practitioners by the governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka.
The state government it has no clandestine plan to frame up anyone as alleged by the SDP candidate.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said Governor Yahaya Bello has not time for lightweight politicians and so he has no plan to frame up anyone, “not to talk about political Lilliputians with questionable character like Murtala Yakubu Ajaka”.
The statement said Murtala Ajaka is not a political threat nor a contender, but only forcing on himself the garment of importance.
“It is important to tell Nigerians and the world that Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the said governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, is on a blisteringly shameful agenda of whipping sentiments, spreading falsehood with reckless abandon so as to put on himself, a garment of importance and create unnecessary air around himself as a contender that he is not.
“Kogites and Nigerians know Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and they know that his intention is to create ethnic division and blow his own ego. We know the contenders and the pretenders and he is not a political threat as far as Kogi State is concerned.
“The ignorance of Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his team is such a flourishing folly, thinking that the Governor is an interested party and would therefore allow his state to become a state of anomie and lawlessness.
“The Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello, CON, is the Governor of all the people of Kogi State and he owes them a duty of care and security. He swore to protect them and protect them he shall,” the state government said.
The state government urged Murtala Ajaka to sort his problem with security agencies.
“Muritala Yakubu Ajaka knows what he has done and should carry his cross boldly instead of hiding behind one finger. We have no hand in the problems that his unbridled inordinate ambition has brought upon him.
“The tactless and dubious attempt to blackmail media practitioners shows the myopia of Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his co-travellers to political oblivion. History has shown that no one can ever defeat the media, especially when practitioners are on the path of truth. The media won’t be cowed by an unknown, misled, dubious and unguarded political minor.”
The statement warns those spreading falsehood in the state to desist or prepare to face the law.
“As a government, we will not condone reckless statements as we urge the security agencies to arrest the current trend by acting decisively against inflammatory statements. A lack of action has emboldened some political opportunists to think they can spread lies, incite the people, play politics of ethnic profiling and still get away with them.”
The state government re-assured all political parties and candidates of their safety as they go about their electioneering.

APC Elects Ex-INEC Commissioner As National Chairman

In what is seen as a strategic move by the APC to consolidate its hold on power at both the federal and state levels, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected a former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner for Benue State, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, as its new National Chairman.
The election was held during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja, following his nomination by Governor Hope Uzodimma nominated Yilwatda, which was seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.
The motion was then put to a voice vote and passed by NEC members present at the meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
The 56-year-old politician who served as INEC Resident commissioner for Benue State, and current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction takes over from Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned from the position in June.
His emergence came at a time when the APC aims to consolidate its hold on power at the federal level and in some states whose governors recently defected to the ruling party.
The seasoned academic, digital systems expert, and former APC governorship candidate in Plateau State was a lecturer and ICT Director at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
In his acceptance speech, the new APC National Chairman vowed to reposition the party for greater internal unity, digital transformation, and stronger grassroots engagement.
“It is a privilege to serve this party that has shaped Nigeria’s democratic journey. I am committed to ensuring that our platform remains inclusive, forward-looking, and representative of every Nigerian voice.”
Born on 8 August 1968, Yilwatda was appointed as Resident Electoral Commissioner for Benue State by INEC in 2017, where he introduced more accessible and transparent voting systems, particularly for internally displaced persons and persons with disabilities.
His political profile rose in 2022 when he won the APC ticket for the Plateau State governorship race. Despite a narrow defeat in the 2023 general election to PDP’s Caleb Mutfwang, he maintained a strong presence in state and national politics.
With his new role, Prof. Yilwatda is expected to resign from his ministerial post in line with party and constitutional provisions. A formal handover at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs is expected within days.

Horde Of PDP Members Resign Over Deepening, Interactable Crisis

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday suffered another major setback on Thursday as two sitting and ranking Senators from Osun State, Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi (Osun Central) and Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East), announced their resignation from the party, citing intractable internal divisions and prolonged legal battles.
In separate letters to their ward chairmen, the lawmakers blamed their exit on the party’s enduring post-2023 election crisis, marked by factionalism and leadership paralysis at the national level. Both said the disarray has rendered their continued membership untenable.
Senator Fadeyi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, lamented that the party had become mired in “irreconcilable” disputes, weakened further by a barrage of court cases and counter-litigations over the past three years. He said his decision followed “wide consultations with political associates, family, and friends.”
In his own letter of resignation, Senator Fadahunsi, who chairs the Senate Committee on Industry, also expressed deep frustration with the PDP’s prolonged turbulence.
“It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith,” attributing his move to the party’s persistent post-election instability.
The double resignations signal rising discontent within the PDP’s legislative ranks and pose new challenges to its already fragile national cohesion.
Observers view the development as a serious indictment of the party’s leadership and a warning of possible further defections unless urgent reconciliation efforts are made.
With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the exits of Senators Fadeyi and Fadahunsi may reshape the political dynamics in Osun State and beyond, prompting realignments and strategic recalibrations in the coming months.
