Local Security Nabs Suspected Kidnapper in Kogi, Recovers Items Purchased with Ransom
The Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper in Upake village, Ajaokuta local government area of the State.
Idris S. Idris, the KSVS Public Relations Officer, said the suspect was arrested with items he purchased with ransom collected from kidnap victim.
In a statement, Idris said the suspect, Lucky Itopa, was on the run after reportedly kidnapping one Yesufu Ahmadu in the same community about three weeks ago.
According to the PRO, the kidnap suspect had released the victim after collecting a ransom of six million naira from the family, which he squandered to purchase unspecified number of Android phones, one brand new motorcycle, one Senwei electric generator and lavished the balance on alcohol, hard drugs and commercial sex workers in the locality.
He said Lucky and the recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Adogo Division for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the operation, the Comptroller General, Kogi State Vigilante Service, Sani Omeiza Ibrahim praised the diligence of the personnel, reiterating the determination of KSVS to apprehend kidnappers, wherever they hibernate in Kogi State.
He appreciated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his continued encouragement and support for the state owned security agency in the campaign to reduce crimes wave to the barest minimum.
